Since 1992, Cape Town-based designer Elana van der Walt has been capturing the essence of ‘girlyness’ – with the personal touch of original handpainting, which makes each garment a unique work of art.
 
  Initially, Elana started painting on her daughter's T-shirts. Two years later, Elana established 'INDYGO'. Retailing at the V&A Waterfront Craft market raised sharp interest and she soon found herself making orders for local & upcountry childrenswear boutiques.

 When her husband Chris joined the business in 1998, 'INDYGO ARTWEAR' was incorporated and they set up factory by building a barn behind their Hout bay home. Export avenues opened up and the brand was launched in the USA.

  Each outfit from Indygo Artwear is individually hand-painted in Capetown, South Africa so each piece is unique in nature. The allure of this exceptional clothing concept lies in its personal touch: authentic brushstrokes & hand-mixed colors, which make each garment unique. In this technological age, Indygo signifies individual creativity and the inspiration offered by the natural surroundings of ‘the Fairest Cape'. You will see some variations in placement of flowers on each piece, but each set has magnificently bright and beautiful colors and looks very similar to the picture you see. Washes easily and colors stay bright! This brand tends to run large and comes pre-washed.
